Atlantic Yards "Embattled"? AP Thinks So
We were taking in the latest details about how Forest City Ratner is being gobbled up by Forest City Enterprises in a complicated little financial transaction and restructuring that will work out as significant cash for developer Bruce Ratner, when we came across a description of Atlantic Yards that made us stop reading for a moment. The story, which was an AP item that ran in Crain's, noted the details of the Forest City deal and said:
Addendum: A commenter notes that the story above identifies the project as being in "downtown Brooklyn," which is where the developer places Atlantic Yards. For those unfamiliar with the site, it sits adjacent to Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, Park Slope, Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens. Downtown Brooklyn is somewhat to the west and south on Flatbush Avenue.
Together, Cleveland-based Forest City and Mr. Ratner have interests in 30 retail, office and residential properties, certain service companies and numerous developments in the New York metropolitan area, including The New York Times Co.’s new headquarters in Times Square and the embattled Atlantic Yards development in downtown Brooklyn, N.Y.Maybe it's just Gowanus Lounge, but when the Associated Press starts putting "embattled" before the name of a development, it would seem to be a clear sign that the lines in the battle for the hearts and minds of Brooklynites (and reporters) have shifted slightly.

gowanus, nice find and point. the project is indeed embattled, not just this new language from AP but silent hillary's interesting recent comments as well.
1) What the fuck woke Hilary up x years later??-- nice goddamn war, right? & Leiberman lost, see ya' schmuck, so she's trying to buttress eroding support. Granted, right cause, wrong reasons (she's speaking out... obviously it's insane society can't afford parks but CAN suck pro sports teams dick-- not what went down up in the Bronx.
2) HOWEVER-- she's talking Brooklyn Bridge 'Park' bullshit, which means BK Heights candyasses still have most $$$/influence (never in doubt). Again, right cause but almost anything that gets Heights residents in snit is OK by me.
3) I despise Ratner, Bloomberg, Ratner Pataki but what part of At Yards is "adjacent" Carroll Gardens (fake real estate n'hood name)?
4) Any of ya'll been paying attention to what's up down at King's Plaza? Well, you SHOULD. If not... don't fucking wonder why people accuse ya'll of NIMBY-ism...
5) I do NOT agree-- Ratner is a slick scumbag crook BUT... i can't believe some people the argument gets framed as poor/lower class v. middle/upper middle when it SHOULD BE all of ya'll against BILLIONAIRES.
