Interesting Old Coney Photo

Coney Coaster

This photo of Coney Island is interesting. We found it posted on a blog called Dante's Inferno with Children, with the blogger identifying as the Cyclone in Coney Island, which it clearly isn't. (The steel tracks are a dead give away.) It's actually the Jumbo Jet, which ceased operation in 2002 and was subsequently sold and is said to be currently located in an amusement park in China.

Hi, I'm the photographer of this photo and I was wondering which roller coaster it was myself. I do have a few shots of the Cyclone, and this was mixed in with those so I got confused.

Here is what I can tell you about it and maybe someone knows the coaster?

The photo was taken in the Spring of 2003. I was shooting through a chain-link fence, and I thought that the angle was right for the Cyclone, but of course the Astro Tower has writing on all sides so that doesn't help much in determining the angle of the shot. Perhaps this shot is actually shooting from the opposite side - towards the Cyclone?

I didn't keep notes and I moved from Brooklyn shortly afterward, so my memory isn't clear.

For a blog that obsessively posts about Coney Island I wonder if you actually ever go to Coney Island... ? If you consider 2 seasons ago "long gone" that kinda proves my point. That is The Jumbo Jet which was located on the Bowery across from The El Dorado arcade.
