Pay a visit to Canarsie, check out the photos and consider the debated etymology of Varkens Hook Road. "Varken simply means 'pig' or 'hog' in Dutch and is attributed to any domestic swine (or person resembling one). Varkensvlees means 'pork meat' as well.
