New Online Petition to Link the G to Trains at Atlantic Avenue
There's a new online petition to help push an idea to connect the G Train, which stops in Fort Greene near BAM to trains that stop at Atlantic Avenue. The MTA is promising to study whether such a connection between G and the lines at the Atlantic Avenue–Pacific Street subway stations would work, but construction of a pedestrian tunnel could take 5-10 years. The petition pitch says:
Help improve life in Brooklyn and Queens, connect the G train to Atlantic Terminal! The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has promised Councilmember Letitia James this week that it would study what it would take to connect the G line Lafayette Avenue stop with the Atlantic-Pacific station, a move that would simplify commuting for tens of thousands of people. The time is now to tell the MTA that Brooklyn and Queens need this!!!The petition can be found here.

It would also be handy if it stopped at 7th Ave. It goes right by through the 7th Ave stop really slowly because it turns around shortly after, so it wouldn't cost anything for them to just stop the train there as well. It would open up commerce between Williamsburg and Park Slope and clear up congestion on the F line. It's frustrating to wait for the F to catch the G one stop up when the G slowly goes right by you.
Heather,
At some point this year in the not-so-distant future, the G will run to Church Ave. making local stops along the way. This has been in the works for nearly 15 moths now.
As for this tunnel, it would be a huge waste of money considering how far it would have to go and how much it would cost. A free above-ground transfer is a much better idea.
It doesn't need to stop at atlantic, it already stops in front of BAM. what would make sennse is stopping at 9th st to connect to the m,r.
It would be great if it did stop at Atlantic. I walk from the G to the 2 all the time.
But with budget restraints in mind, maybe a good compromise would be a free transfer from Fulton G (and Lafayette C) to Atlantic Terminal, similar to the free transfer in LIC...
This is a great idea.
Which means MTA will have to hire consultants to tell them "it's a great idea."
Sorry. MTA can't afford that right now.
