Eye on the Street: New Burg Faile

This relatively recent Faile piece (which is one of a group of three of the one) can be found on N. 10 Street near Berry in the Burg on a door that has been a popular street art spot on and off over the years.

Eye on the Street: Senator

This art comes from Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg, where it's affixed to the construction fence where the "Gateway to Williamsburg" a new residential building with street level retail will go up.

Art Attack #2: Third & Bond Mural Action Shot

We found artist Pasqualina Azzarello working on her mural at the development going up at the corner of Third and Bond in Gowanus. She has been expanding the huge mural and even extending around the construction trailer. Brownstoner has been running weekly posts about the development. The latest has some renderings of the design from Rogers Marvel.

This is street art, but much more than that, it's street sign art. We found it attached to a sign on Grand Street near Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg.

Yesterday, we had a big roach sticker on a Department of Buildings permit. Today, we have the outlines of a face. Tomorrow, who knows? This is from Berry Street in Williamsburg.

This is from Berry Street in Williamsburg between N. 6 and N. 7 Streets. We appreciate the juxtaposition of happy face and the unfinished Finger Building.

We found this is Williamsburg, on N. 12 Street at Wythe. It's clearly a cool stencil that was interrupted in the process of being created. Perhaps someone at Streetsy, which is the place to go to check out NYC street art, will have more detail.

This art was put atop other art on the side of a gallery at N. 11 and Wythe in Williamsburg which, in turn, had been placed atop an earlier display. There are many layers on this corner.

Say What--Arty in Gowanus

This isn't so much an altered or battered street sign as it is an arty street sign, but we like those too. It comes from Union Street near Third Avenue in Gowanus, mere steps from the Holiday Inn Express.

Eye on the Street: When the Art is Gone on Union Street

Our Carroll Gardens Correspondent grabbed a shot of the former site of some cool public art near the Union Street Bridge in Gowanus. Leading us to wonder whether a fraying piece of public art is preferable to the maroon paint job that succeeded it. In any case, the "before and after" juxtaposition is interesting.

We ran a somewhat earlier photo of this artwork yesterday along with some other Burg street art, before we found that it had been updated in a most amusing way. It is from Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg.

Eye on the Street: Interesting Recent Burg Street Art

The amount of street art one finds in Williamsburg has been decreasing exponentially with each passing year in the 2000s to the point where only finds a small amount of what was around even three years ago and a fraction of what one could find seven or eight years ago and even less than before that. In any case, here is a random sampling of some that has popped up in the last 4-6 weeks, with a major focus on the C215 stencils that showed up around the third week of February. There is a full Flickr set of them posted by the artist and, of course, all things street art always pop up on the Streetsy site.

Here's some new imagery that appeared recently on Wythe Avenue between N. 3rd and N. 4th Streets. The one above is on a wall that has drawn a great deal of street art over the years. The one below just appeared on a nearby construction fence.

Williamsburg Street Art Takes Happy Turn

We've come across some complaints this week that street art in Williamsburg is too "negative" and "dark." Well, this isn't classic street art, but it's a street-art like display we found on N. 8th Street near Kent Avenue. There is nothing dark or negative about it. Dare we call it cheerful?

Berry Street Williamsburg Art Mystery Solved

We knew there was something odd about the street art that popped up around the building going in next to 55 Berry in Williamsburg last week. Something about it told us the material on N. 10th and N. 11th Streets wasn't a standard installation of street art, but we had no idea what it was and did not have time to check it out, so we put the pics aside. Now, thanks to Jake Dobkin at Gothamist, who is one of the Number One authorities on the city's street art scene--and what's legit and what's not--the mystery is solved: the developer paid artists for the work. You can draw your own conclusions about whether it's an attempt to make the scaffolding look nice or to get some coolness points from the art. You can read the full explanation over at Gothamist.
