Frozen Gowanus Canal

The image above is from the blog Velvet Sea. The blogger writes, "How cold is it out there? Break out the ice skates cause it's cold enough to freeze over the Gowanus Canal (or at least a portion of it). Who knew that 150 years worth of oil, mercury, PCB's, and lead could actually freeze?" Most of the Big G is still ice-free. This is a basin off the main canal that runs behind the Whole Foods site, as viewed from Third Avenue.
