Bklink: Cat Hater

Someone is threatening to poison feral cats in Carroll Gardens, having posted a sign at an empty lot where someone leaves food for them that he/she will poison the cats. One sign says: "Every time you place cat food here, I will soak it in ammonia." Another one says: "The owner of this property insists that you stop feeding the cats here." The owner of parking lots says she has no idea who put up the signs, but will try to find out.--NYDN

And it's illegal to do so by our state laws, actually.

"360. Poisoning or attempting to poison animals.

A person who unjustifiably administers any poisonous or noxious drug or substance to a horse, mule or domestic cattle or unjustifiably exposes any such drug or substance with intent that the same shall be taken by horse, mule or by domestic cattle, whether such horse, mule or domestic cattle be the property of himself or another, is guilty of a felony. A person who unjustifiably administers any poisonous or noxious drug or substance to an animal, other than a horse, mule or domestic cattle, or unjustifiably exposes any such drug or substance with intent that the same shall be taken by an animal other than a horse, mule or domestic cattle, whether such animal be the property of himself or another, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or by both. If it is a disgruntled neighbor, we can try to mediate and help the feeders in the right direction to do a Trap-Neuter-Return project. Sometimes people complain if the cats spillover onto their property and do their business or hang out on stuff.

Anyway, let me know if we can be of any help. - Jesse

First of all let me correct you by saying the lot is not empty. It's a parking lot on the corner of Sackett & Hicks street. This problem is why bigger that just feeding cats. There is a problem with rats in that area. I suggest you read the letter posted on GL or just take a walk down to the lot and read the signs.
