Saturday Rant: "Defining Moment of Park Slope Parents' Stupidity"

Yesterday, Brooklynometry expressed some very pointed second thoughts about the "Park Slope stroller mafia." Then, we came across a long thread on the Park Slope Forum at Brooklynian.com: "The defining moment of Park Slope Parents' stupidity." Here is the first post in the thread:
This was posted on Park Slope Parents, and forwarded to me. This sort of thinking epitomizes what I detest about neurotic PSPs. I don't even know where to begin...but, isn't the alphabet something YOU teach your kids? Like, umm...sort of naturally? Maybe even have fun without outsourcing it?! I mean, how early do these control freaks want to plug their kids in?! HORRIFIED!

Please help!
>
> Someone told me about a year ago about a web site for kids where they
> can learn an alphabet. I didn't save it as a bookmark and can't locate
> it now. I think it was affiliated with PBS television, something like
> Bright Stars or Raising Stars. If you know this web site or any
> similar, please share. Thanks.
The entire thread is composed of many opinions about which readers are likely to have a wide range of opinions.

It takes a village of websites to raise a child these days, what with adults slaves to the cost of housing and their self-importance, and people scared of everything.

I'm speaking from experience, of course. Where is the trailer park? I'm considering a move there.

Am I alone in wondering what kind of sad person would actually care how parents do or don't play alphabet games with their children? Does it matter if it's on a web site? Of the many things to spend time on, why this? What sort of sad validation does this provide? I would really like to know.

Annon 9:13 - Clearly, you are either part of the topic, or do not understand the topic. Either way, the mores of the PSP group and the Park Slope cognogenti in general are well known, well documented, and well examined. This is typical.

It's true, you can wonder exactly who is the control freak, the parent looking for the website or the HORRIFIED poster who objects. By the way, the site the parent is looking for may be starfall.com

yep this is what happens when the yuppie straight couples decide to take over a neighborhood like PS. Now they turn it into neurotic UES baby boom version in brooklyn---you can take them out of their parents home in UES but you can't take their suburban neurotic ways out of them--God help the kids.

you guys sound like a bunch of LOSERS. wow. You are talking online, probably for hours every week, about other people being too plugged in? Yes, the strollers are annoying, the moms are annoying (you fucking misogynists, where are the fucking dads? why are they not around being annoying? or do they just not annoy you sexists??)

I find it all annoying too, but I am glad people have decided to procreate in this town again, I GREW UP HERE< LOSERS. I am so sick you you HIPSTERs, DIKES fomr illinois, and other midwestern losers talking about this place like it's your town.

Again, I grew up here, with other KIDS, moms, and dads. Its Nice to see families living here. Otherwise it would be like that UGLY HE-SHE I saw bithicng about kids in Gorilla Coffee the other day with some other self-congratualatory, transplant. Its not your city. People who put roots down here, make families - its theirs.

You all go moe to Philly, where people with loser jobs can own apartments.

kids like to play on computers - the see parents on them. There is no use going anything but letting them have small, controlled doses. My kids play at the central branch library, where you have to sign up and get 30 minutes. They have not figured out that tey can play on mine. AM I supposed to feed them HEMP MILK and hide TV, cell Phones, etc from them.

Person who posted on this topic should focus on something else other than negative lashing at neighbors, there is room in Brooklyn for everyone.

yuppie straight couples TAKE OVER the neighborhood???

this neighborhood was a family neighborhood back when you lived in bumfuck in the closet, babe. The lack of any historical awareness of these losersw who come to NY to be "themselves" is amazing. this neighborhood was and is, by the way, still one of the TWO highest in the country for lesbian parents. And we are treated VERY VERY well by this neighborhood, our friends, straight and gay, our conressmen, schools etc. Grow up and get a life.
