House of the Day: Orient Avenue Fixer Upper

59 Orient Two

A reader sent us some photos a weird house on Orient Avenue that is not too far from an odd condo project being marketed as Olive Park. It's ostensibly a far corner of Williamsburg, though some people consider it a far corner of Greenpoint. Here is the description that came with the photos:
A guy with three crazy dogs used to live there, and moved out last month. The property is up for sale, but all the doors are wide open. My roomate and I wondered around there taking photos because it was so crazy...there are lots of cats...and smells HORRIBLE.
We might add that it looks pretty creepy too. Is that a burned out car in the backyard? A sale is listed last summer for $1.25 million to Flushing Avenue Realty which, in turn, got a permit on Monday from the Department of Buildings for permits to remove the existing windows, seal them and install new doors. Brownstoner wrote about the property last year, noting that it would likely be a development site. We found it listed on Craigslist for $2.5 million as a "great investment/development site."

Yikes, I was in that place a few years ago moving out a couch. PLace smelled like cats, but the upper floor space was pretty cool, if not in need of a total rehab.

Why didn't they at least remove the lamps and furniture if this company bought the place a full year ago? Those carved wood frames could have totally been salvaged and used again. It doesn't matter what condition the upholstery is in, you just rip that part off and replace it. But now the wood frames are soaked in cat and dog pee and busted up by squatters and vagrants. Stupid. This is exactly how probably 1/3 of all antiques disappear from the world. Because of morons who don't know to take care of them and just toss them on the trash heap.

Now the homeless live there, have been ther for months , and have tried to steal everything from and on the house. Who ever owns it does not care, and the people in the nieghborhood do nothing(thanks comunity board) The older people on the block are really scared. Cops are called daily and ther has been 2 fires already(they use candles at night). Sad things for the block, as well as the house, which not to long ago was in a jim carey movie.
