Gowanus Lounge Photo Du Jour: Oh, Crispy Christmas Tree

Signs of Spring Slope Christmas Tree

Sometimes you pass by things and don't really notice them. So it is with this Christmas tree on the roof of the building at Seventh Avenue and Lincoln Place in Park Slope. It graced the neighborhood with its rooftop display during the holidays and, well, it's still there, looking crispy and formerly festive. Sadly, it will be even more past its prime for the '08-'09 holiday season, which will start in a mere eight months or so. Until then, Permanent Christmas in Park Slope which is especially meaningful on Easter weekend.

Upcoming: The Grim Mulcher Cometh

Holidays Definitely Over

If the holidays are over, that can only mean one thing: It's almost time for Mulchfest. This year's festivities take place on Saturday (1/5) and Sunday (1/6) from 10AM-2PM. We've gone to the copy & paste courtesy of the Parks Department website to bring you all the Brooklyn chipping and drop off locations. The Sanitation Department is also picking up trees for recycling that are left at the curb starting tomorrow (1/3) through January 16, for those that want to hang on to that holiday spirit beyond Sunday. In Park Slope, the Mulchfest crew is looking for volunteers to help out. If anyone's interested, they can call 718-965-8960 or email volunteers (at) prospectpark (dot) org. The links in the table below, by the way, take you to the maps of each park on the Parks Dept. website. Happy mulching:

Operation Christmas Cheer Photos

Operation Christmas Cheer

Before Christmas, we noted that PortSide New York would be holding its annual Operation Christmas Cheer on Christmas Day. That's a wonderful event where volunteers bring cookies and newspapers to crews on tugs and barges working New York Harbor on the holiday. The cool blog Tugster has posted some photos of the day. Check them out.

Holiday Report from Court Street

Court Street Two

A special GL friend filed a couple of Christmas Eve photos from Court Street Pastry with the simple message: "75 years of Italian baked goodness." Have you had your Brooklyn canoli yet?
